Linda Hagerman
DVM, Retired in December 2024
It is with mixed emotions that I write to let you know that I am choosing to retire from veterinary practice and Tacoma Equine Hospital this December and bid farewell to my wonderful team and to you, our clients. Thirty-five years of wrestling horses and sleep deprivation have taken their toll, and I am ready to move into my next chapter of life.

I am fully confident that all of you will continue to receive the same “Quality Care. Compassionate People. Exceptional Service” that you have come to expect from us, as I step aside. Of course I will miss all of you. We have grown up together in love and loss. Even if I’m not at the office everyday you will see me around town. In September of the year 2000, when I purchased Tacoma Equine Hospital as a young veterinarian, I knew it was the right thing for me to do, but I never really considered how scary and hard it would be to manage my life and a business at the same time. What kept me centered and persevering through the unknown and demanding work however, was my driving focus on my life’s mission and passion... to help horses to the best of my ability. I was energetic enough to not notice the long days and nights and was content to handle the administrative tasks when it was all "done."
I was fortunate, over time, to be able to hire and engage additional veterinarians and staff who were just as focused on delivering exceptional equine care as I was. Twenty-four years later, I am so proud of our people who continue to dedicate their professional lives both to the Tacoma Equine mission and to horses. I am humbled by our clients’ loyalty to us and commitment to their equine family as well. You have always demanded the best care for your horses, and we are fortunate and honored you have chosen us to deliver it. I know that Tacoma Equine Hospital will continue to provide outstanding medical care and customer service just as we’ve always done, but if you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out soon. Just call the office and leave a message for me. Dr. Galen will be taking over my role as managing DVM, in charge of medical protocols, and Karen Sonju will continue in her role as an administrative magician. They, and the entire team here, have been working towards this for some time now and are excited and ready to continue taking Tacoma Equine into the future.
My plans are to sleep in, eat my meals at a dining room table (not behind the wheel of an SUV) and ride my beautiful horse, Seraphina, every day. I am also looking forward to giving back to the community as a volunteer at food banks, mentorship programs, working for human rights, etc. If you know me well, you know I’ll also be traveling and playing more music. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for trusting me in my mission for all these years. I couldn’t have done any of this without all of our outstanding caring clients. I wish you all the best and I’ll see you around.
Cheers,
Dr. Linda
